Former President Bush Hosts White House Press Secretary Tony Snow

George Bush, 41st President of the United States, will host White House Press Secretary Robert Anthony “Tony” Snow at the George Bush Presidential Library Center on the campus of Texas A&M University on Friday, March 2, 2007, at 6:00 pm.  His topic will be “The Press and the Presidency.” 

Snow will present the Twanna M. Powell Lecture at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.  The program is sponsored by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.  The Twanna M. Powell Lecture Series is an endowed program designed to bring distinguished leaders and recognized experts on major public policy issues, about or related to the State of Texas, to the campus of Texas A&M University. Established through an endowment from the Donald and Twanna Powell family, this lecture series takes place in the spring and is designed to reach a broad audience, including students, faculty and residents from throughout the state of Texas.

Snow has served as Assistant to the President and Press Secretary since May 2006.  In this role, he serves as the primary spokesperson for the President, conducting the daily White House briefing and helping to communicate the President’s agenda to the White House Press Corps.

Prior to serving President Bush, Snow was the host of “The Tony Snow Show” on FOX News Radio and of “Weekend Live with Tony Snow” on FOX News Channel (FNC).  He also served as a FNC political analyst.  From 1996 – 2003, he hosted  “FOX News Sunday,” the FOX Broadcasting network’s Sunday morning public affairs program. 

Before joining FOX News, Snow was a nationally syndicated columnist with The Detroit News and USA Today. Earlier in his career, he served as an editorial writer at The Virginian-Pilot; editorial page editor of The Daily Press; deputy editorial page editor of The Detroit News; and editorial page editor of The Washington Times. Snow’s career in journalism began in 1979 when he was an editorial writer for The Greensboro Record.

In 1991, Snow served in the White House for President George H. W. Bush as Deputy Assistant to the President for Communications and Director of Speechwriting, and later as Deputy Assistant to the President for Media Affairs.
