Scowcroft Institute "Meet the Author" Series

Monday, April 21, 2008

Texas A&M Assistant Professor of History Jason Parker will discuss his new book, “Brother’s Keeper: The United States, Race and Empire in the British Caribbean,” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (April 24) in Room 1107 of the Allen Building at the Scowcroft Institute. This event is part of the Scowcroft Institute’s “Meet the Author” Series.

Parker has taught at Texas A&M since 2006.  He specializes in American foreign relations and in the modern US.  Brother’s Keeper, which was recently released by Oxford University Press, is an examination of the process of decolonization in the Third World from 1930s to the Cold War.  Within the work, Parker gives an account of the peaceful independence movements of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago and  focuses on the actions of the US,  the West Indies, Britain, and the transnational African Diaspora.

The Scowcroft Institute’s “Meet the Author” series will honor new book publications in the fields of national security and international affairs by Scowcroft Institute faculty advisory board members and other scholars.

The “Meet the Author” series is one of many Scowcroft Institute programs intended to foster and disseminate policy-oriented research on international affairs.  Other major programs include the Scowcroft Faculty Research Grants, the Lenore and Francis Humprhrys International Speakers Series, and the Scowcroft National Security Seminar Series.
